DNF'd. I got through 100 pages and it wasn't for me. I did not like the MC Jaya. I thought she was making things more significant than they needed to be. I felt for all the love, protection, and support she wanted to give her sister, Isha, she also tried to control her younger sister, keeping Isha from being herself. The plot was a bit predictable and I already knew who did what. I did not want Jaya to be romantically involved with Grey because I felt he deserved better. When I tried to skim ahead to see if anything would change my mind, it didn't. Knowing there was a second book to this and that I wouldn't pick that up, I stopped reading.

4 // This was absolutely beautiful. When it comes to romances, my expectations for the writing quality are never set to be high (or even average for that matter). I do think it is safe to say, however, that this book surpassed even my hopes for its outcome. Its gorgeous, descriptive writing style paired with its adorable storyline and characters made for an unexpected treat which was just what I needed to get me out of my reading slump. For once I can safely state that I liked both characters involved in the main relationship which is surprisingly a rare occurrence. I would also like to point out how well I think Menon (the author) was able to bring in a good parallel between her retelling and the story's source material (Beauty and the Beast). While sometimes I find retellings can stick too strictly to the original tales making the retelling rather dull and unimaginative, Menon found a way to give a refreshing balance of her take on BatB and the original storyline.

Overall, if you are in need of a quick, yet nonetheless impactful and strikingly decadent romance, and retelling, this is definitely a novel I would one hundred percent recommend.
