It deserved the Pulitzer it won. Heart-rending and beautiful. He tells a story of someone whose past was hard without glamorizing the story or the person. He realizes that no frills are needed.

Impossible to put down. It does a good job of depicting the daily struggles of those living during the holocaust and how the war impacted both survivors and their offspring.
