Really informative and quite slay but she rambled quite a bit about Winchester’s extended family and like general social circles a LOT for me because I just needed to cite this for an essay. Probably would be great for someone who was super into the history of the house because a lot of this was really interesting for me despite the fact that all i really needed was sources for some info i already knew

I really enjoyed this biography on the woman who inherited the Winchester gun fortune. The first half of the book describes the history of the rifle...the second half covers her life after the death of her husband and what she did with all the money.

Ignoffo dives into the the myth of Sarah Winchester. Even before she died, the widow and heiress had rumors swirling around her, what she was doing with her properties, what she was doing with her money, etc. This book uncovers the truth behind all of the rumors, all while putting Winchester's story in the context of the time, showing how the rumors were started and how her house came to be so well-known as that of a crazy woman (which she wasn't).
