Terry Southern's most famous piece of fiction, during his life and even now, is when the titular character in Candy yells GIVE ME YOUR HUMP! to the man with kyphosis. And it's funny and weird, sure. In Blue Movie, though, it seems he wants to have pages and pages of Humpgiving with transgressive descriptions of sex scenes and scenarios within an amazing premise. But the transgressions all come at the direction of a gross power structure (so how transgressive is it, really?) and one person's fate seems intended as mock tragedy, but is now read as real tragedy. Plus the last of the book has a messy and silly large scale fight that seems so like the end of The Magic Christian I was expecting a man in a gorilla suit to come join the festivities.

The three stars are mainly for the idea of a porn movie sponsored by the small nation of Liechenstein to increase tourism. That really is good.
