A good, solid mystery. Good characters, good plot, lots of little twists and turns. I definitely recommend it.

The disappointing thing about this book is that the onvolutions of the plot eventually come to nothing. There is a solution, but it's as implausible as the setup, which relies on characters supposedly seeking Nero Wolfe's help withholding informationto leave a puzzle for the brilliant armchair detective.

Ah, well, it's the secnd book. I don't thnk I'll be nvesting a great deal of time in any more.

Good, old fashioned detective novel, but I'd forgotten that Rex Stout is VERY tough to ready. I spent most of my time looking up 10 letter words. Classic though...I may have to read more...later.

I'll admit that, although I did enjoy Fer-de-Lance (the first Nero Wolfe novel), I wasn't impressed with it. It was a little to easy to set aside. The League of Frightened Men caught me off-guard. I enjoyed the plot and character development more in this book. I'd even admit I couldn't even decide who I thought the culprit was. I'm now more energized to continue in the series.

This is one of my favorite Nero Wolfe mysteries. It kept me guessing right from the start, and had more than one twist! With 30 clients and a man who confessed to the murders publicly as well as in letters written in verse, Archie is hard put to find actual evidence of his guilt.

Good writing about a brilliant detective and the oddball shut-in blowhard he attaches himself to. Not to be read for feasibility of plot or special insights into human character, but an entertainment that has aged well.

Really clever and completely hilarious in spots, I guessed part of the outcome (go me!) but the actual answer eluded me. Interesting to the very end.
