Not the best Wodehouse and includes a blackface scene, despite being a text instead of visual medium

My first read from P. G. Wodehouse. If this book is anything to go by, he's quite the verbal comedian. I found myself laughing through many funny descriptions and bits of witty dialogue. The one caveat is that it's only recommended for the "not easily offended" because there are some things in here that align with the mores of the time, first published in 1922 as it were. Yes, back then white people were in charge of the Western world and people of other races were more a mysterious curiosity than they were considered the white man's peers, so unfortunately this book echoes that sentiment. If you can look beyond that and just see it as a satirical farce about bumbling British and American people in the 1920s, you may be amused as I was.

I repeat myself in all my reviews of Wodehouse books, because the plot is the same in all the books. Here too we have multiple engagements, break-ups, bossy aunts, eccentric uncles, cunning butlers and some cute dogs. I can't figure how Wodehouse can repeat the same in every book and still make it so entertaining.

A fun, lighthearted romp!  This was the first “non-Jeeves” Wodehouse I had read, and it did not disappoint. Wodehouse’s wit and humorous writing style, the silliness of his plots, and his usually happy endings make wonderful escapist reading.
