This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

I think this is the first African Speculative Fiction book written by a Nigerian that I've read that drew me in and I felt like I was walking through an ancestral plain.

I don't know how to even articulate myself. But I'll try my best.

The story takes us to the beginning of time. An old tale narrated from the memories of an older being.

From one they all came, beings with powers.
Isi with her flowers, Mmemuta with her fierceness and war, Anya with her visions, Uda who heard the voices that roamed the earth, and Detu-ire who walked and lived among mortals.

But where there is good, evil always finds a way in. Now, these siblings have to come together again, an act that is dangerous and could cost them everything. But they have no choice.

Somto Ihezue is a storyteller. You know how our grandparents uses to sit us by burning firewood sticks at night, with cricket sounds in the background as they told us stories of our ancestors, scenes from wars and battles, and the dialogues between gods that once walked among men.

That's how Somto tells stories with words. I feel like everyone should just read Somto's work and then they'll really understand how it felt.
