I could relate to many of these stories, because I too live in a “cat house.” This book contains short stories about the many cats that have lived with and had influence on author Gwen Cooper’s life. As I find with most short story collections, some stories were stronger than others, but I enjoyed reading them all. I gave this book three stars, because, while I did enjoy the stories, I thought the book tended to bog down at times with excess verbiage due to the author’s trying to stretch a simple tale into an entire story. This book is a must read if you’re a “cat person.”

A fun light-hearted read. Each chapter is its own stand-alone story. The author references her previous book often in this book, but it is not necessary to have read it to enjoy this one.
My favourite quote in this book was right in the beginning; "Still, as far as I was concerned, a home wasn't a home at all if there weren't any animals living in it." It very closely echoes how I feel about animals, so I enjoyed this book very much. Its not going to appeal to everyone - animal lovers, especially cat owners (slaves) will enjoy the antics of Gwen Cooper's cats and find themselves recalling a time their cat did something similar. But non-animal people might find the writing a bit strange and not "get" the humour.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, BenBella Books for the opportunity to read this delightful book.

The reason why I choose to receive a free digital copy of this book via netgalley was because I love cats. I could relate to some of Gwen’s cat’s antics, they behaved almost exactly as my cats from my childhood. Cooper invites the reader into her life, including her ex-boyfriends, friends, and her husband. She shares a bit of her everyday life and struggles living with cats, something that every cat owner can relate to. This quickly got to be very repetitive and some chapters seemed to focus more upon Cooper and her relationships and family dynamics as opposed to the cats. My Life in a Cat House is something to be read one chapter at a time in multiple settings instead of a complete read-through all at once.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
