I will not lie, I skimmed through parts of this book that felt, to me, incredibly boring. In my defense, I have an exam in two days for which I need to read one more book. But that is not to say that The Egoist is terrible or not enjoyable. In fact, it was so much fun at times that I couldn't put it down. I loved Clara and Vernon, hated Willoughby, and felt frustrated and laughed out loud several times. I might even actually have to say that I'm willing to read this book again in future.

Abundance. Fertility. Joy. Words, phrases, paragraphs tumble out of this book. If ever an author's imagination fails them they should drink deeply from this work. It is a masterclass of invention. Intelligent to the point of the absurd.
