This a YA novel and it shows. Everything is PG and the POV is definitely a child. It is a quick read and shows the consequences for your actions.

This book was certainly something. I wouldn’t say I hated it, but it fell pretty flat overall. The overuse of similes got annoying after a little while and the characters all talked very childishly. This is a YA novel so I guess that should be expected slightly, but I’ve read plenty of YA novels that have enjoyable dialogue. I enjoyed the parts between Holiday and Linden throughout the book though. The twist at the end was decent, although not unexpected.
One silly thing that bothered me through the book was the lack of them sleeping. It seemed that Linden maybe got 10 hours of sleep over the whole of that vacation the way he ‘couldn’t sleep’ and his sleep kept being interrupted. It felt a little ridiculous. It’s one thing to not mention your characters sleeping at all, but to continuously bring it up and then talk about how he barely slept for one reason or another??? I was expecting him to collapse from exhaustion by the end.
The whole ex-girlfriend Greer thing was also pretty weird. I get that they’re trying to set up for a sequel (or prequel?) to talk about the trauma between Linden and Greer, but we never really got anything other than there was a terrible car accident involving both of them that wrecked Linden’s ankle. We don’t ever meet Greer during this book and I don’t really care about the relationship between Greer and Linden. There’s not enough intrigue there for me to be interested in another book to be honest.

It was an okay read. Summer YA style mystery. Not many plot twists and not really gripping. Just easy to read and short. Didn’t take me by surprise and wasn’t hooked.

I honestly thought this book was just ok. I knew it was young adult going into it, and I still enjoy young adult novels so I was fine with that. However the dialogue was very immature and that really took away from the story. The story also fell kinda flat for me as a whole. This book did kinda end on a cliffhanger so there is the potential that I pick up the following book, but it's definitely not something I need in my hands.
