I enjoyed the book, but not as much as others I've read. Anything surrounding pregnancy and loss just doesn't interest me so the last parts of the book didn't hold the emotional depth I think the author intended. I did not like or care about any of the characters. I found them all to be extremely flat assholes. Also, trauma is not a character trait!
The end of the book reminded me a bit of Verity (not a good thing) where it's supposed to be a happy ending to end up with an abuser. Stealthing and stealing bodily autonomy is not given the weight it deserves.
God awful ending truly. Unsatisfactory. Still, I would give this author another chance. I enjoyed the pacing and writing style.

I appreciated that this wasn’t the kind of book to make the police look bad. The narrative wasn’t that the police are dumb and we have to solve things ourselves.

I am rarely surprised by the ending of a book, but this plot twist got me!

I really liked the twists and turns this book took me through and I didn’t see the final one coming until just before it hit me over the head.
The glossing over of the domestic violence and Sutton’s imminent return to Ethan after they find out how they were set up was more disturbing to me than most of the murder in the story. By the end of the book, the reader is supposed to pretend that the abuse Sutton experienced at the hands of her husband was justifiable or that it was somehow fixed through therapy and their “new start” and I didn’t like that.
I also didn’t like the thinly veiled fatphobia, misogyny, and biases towards people with mental health issues.
