Surprisingly good. This book blew my hair back with its depth... it really makes you think.

I am in college. I still remember what it was like being in high school. I hated it because I didn't have any real friends until my senior year and the people I was surrounded with were all very negative. I read this book in high school and related to it, but after I re-read it in college...not so much.

although I thought it was a very tough topic - the cruelty of girls and how tough it is to fit in. It also shows how tough it is fight the "popular" crowd social norms and go against the grain. Stand up and be proud? Make the "right" choice...even if it's not the popular one. All of these little sayings...we've told kids over the years. this book is a great example of just how tough that can feel. How easy it is so say it - how tough it is to really do it (and sometimes we don't because it's such a hard choice!)

However, I thought the main character's complete turn around near the end unbelievable. It just seemed so quick. When the first 3/4 of the book was slow and methodical and seemed to only cover a short period of time, the last 1/3 covers a pretty big span and finally the plot is revealed. I would have liked it to be longer to give the plot more time to play out and learn more.

This book wasn't enjoyable. Megan was a stuck up, self-absorbed and arrogant character. Megan doesn't even know how to learn from her mistakes. Even though you're meant to feel sympathetic for Perdita, I didn't. She purposely scared everyone off as she "acted" like a freak and recited poem almost like she was crazy. "The group" was an exaggeration of teenage cliques; it was almost cringeworthy reading about them having group meetings and fighting over what to call each other.

If I didn't have to read this for English, I wouldn't even had read it at all. 2/5

Quick read. Well written. Teen issues: relationships, popularity, suicide.

I'm reading this at school - I wouldn't usually read this type of book, too depressing. Bring on the fantasy!

Somebody save me - a girl in my class just spoilt the ending!

Relatable but with underdeveloped characters and no real "wow" factor.

Easy to read and follow, but doesn’t touch heavier subjects with enough care.
Unfortunately presents outdated ideology which perpetuates suicide as a selfish and blame-worthy while avoiding any actual mention of the mental health troubles that factor in to this kind of tragedy. The fact that this is glossed over while our protagonist grieves all, “woe is me,” left me feeling as though there was little-to-zero character development by the end, and that this outcome was pointless for the storytelling.
