I first read David W Barbee’s work back in 2009 when he released Carnageland through the New Bizarro Author imprint of Eraserhead Press. Back then he was a new face in a relatively new genre, and now, six years later, he has three more books under his belt, all published through Eraserhead Press, and doesn’t show signs of slowing down any time soon.

The Night’s Neon Fangs is a collection of four novellas, all weird in their own right. If humorous/wacky bizarro is your thing, you’ll be pleased reading the stories found in this book. Every sentence seems to introduce a strange new element into the story, whether it be a storm of mummies or a herd of vampiric cows, and somehow it all feels oddly natural to encounter these things inside Barbee’s world.

This book has a little bit of everything: electric werewolves, Jello-men, a bizarro retelling of a well-known Bible classic, reptilian aliens, and even a Bat Cop… yes, a Bat Cop. Bizarro is fun because it seems to be the only genre where there truly are no limits, and because of that the reader is never able to predict what happens next. Barbee’s books are no exception. I’m looking forward to seeing what he has coming out next!
