This was an easy and enjoyable read. I like the way the author writes; it flows nicely. Loved both the main characters, though I will say at the start I wasn't too keen on Ruby. That first meeting between her and Mel... wow Ruby was a, well, not a nice word. haha I do so love prickly characters though that you end up loving, and Ruby was definitely one of those. She just comes across as thorny at first; she's actually quite adorable, as is Mel. Their little garden class with the kids was precious. Michael was easily my favorite of the children mentioned. The children's teacher however... Well, let's just say I really wanted to go through the book and throat punch her on more than one occasion.

I felt the relationship within the book progressed nicely and realistically. The bumps in the road for them were natural enough and not overly dramatic like some do. There was one bump though that hurt me right in the feels and I wanted to curl up and cry with the character myself.

All in all a really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed. :)

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I bet my review will be different than majority of the reviews posted for this novel. Don't get me wrong, the writing is well done. The characters are well developed and I am a fan of middle aged romance novels. I'm glad dyslexia is being addressed in this novel in respectable way. I think that is very important to be inclusive of different people and their experiences.

However, I find myself bored while reading this novel. There's little drama and I don't feel the chemistry between the characters. The most exciting part of the novel is when the homophobic teacher confront the main characters and that get resolved pretty quickly. I suppose this novel would be appreciated more by readers who enjoy simple romance between two women without much drama.

I would give this story two stars, but the writing is really well done.

This was disappointing to me, probably because I expected better after the author's previous book. It was certainly not badly written on a technical level, but it was otherwise very meh to me. I never even came close to clicking with any of the characters, I didn't even like them at times, including even late in the story, and I found some of the drama too forced. I ended up skimming the end.

I still think this author deviates from the usual formula in ways that make sense to me, about little things I have been peeved about for years, and even if her attempts are generally on the not-enough side, I intend to keep checking her stuff.
