This Kindle short from Tor.com is a fun, light-hearted yarn by Charles Stross. The idea is that Stross ends up at a conference for a bunch of sf writers and cold war engineers, under the idea that putting all these minds together might result in some interesting conversations. And this little tale is one of the resulting conversations.
It's hard to tell what's fact and what's fiction in this one, which is part of the fun. Worth reading.

A nice Stross short story. Interesting how different cultures show off about different things, but in completely similar
ways. Umberto Eco will throw down with medieval/literature facts, and Charlie just needs you to know how much he knows
about chemistry off the top of his head.

Utterly hilarious to anyone who loves rocketry, the space program, mild espionage and things that blow up spectacularly.

I'm not really sure why this short story was published on its own, but I'd say it doesn't have wide appeal outside of the rocket nerd crowd.

I enjoyed it. It was a quick read and had a kind of golden age of sci-fi feel to it (I guess because it referenced the Cold War).
