Cinematic, unflinching, deeply unnerving, and heartfelt to boot, BOYS IN THE VALLEY gave me nightmares and broke my heart, too. That is to say -- 10/10, no regrets.

This really was fantastic! Gripping from start to finish. I often find myself reading a book sparatically throughout the weeks forgetting I have it for days on end. For this novel I picked it up every day and could not put it down. This one didnt pull any punches and its refreshing to have a book do that when so many are afraid to tread ground like this!

A horror read set in an all-boys religious orphanage in the early 1900s. I thought, "What's not to love?" It started strong but fizzled for me and I found myself feeling incredibly bored while trying to finish it. 2.5 stars

Wow, this book had me feeling very tense through the whole thing. There were a lot of "WTF just happened" moments. I'm still not exactly sure what evil was in this story, but it did not stop me from enjoying it. I had a hard time putting this book down for long because I wanted to know what was going to happen. Love a coming-of-age horror story.

2.5 stars for me. Almost 3 stars.

I liked the premise, the setting and characters.

The story was well written and moved along well.

10/10 did not like the ending, and it was only a 1/5 in terms of scare factor for me.
