I was pleasantly surprised by this book! The poems on friendship especially hit home for me.

It's hard for me to rate a poetry collection versus a novel or short story collection, especially since I don't read poetry often. Nikita Gill is one of the major exceptions. I remember coming across one of her poems being quoted on Tumblr back in the day, and I was intrigued. However, I didn't pick up any of her work until 2018, when I found "Fierce Fairytales" in a bookstore in Seoul. I bought it, read it, and became an instant fan.
So I bought this collection with no hesitation, without even reading what it's about. And let me tell you: it may be classified as a YA poetry collection, but the words in here will resonate with women of any age. The words collected in these pages are angry, sad, hopeful, despairing, hard, soft -they're a collection of the contradictions that make up real life women, separated into different seasons and some of the themes associated with the seasons. There's words about anger, words about healing, words about found family, words about being different. Some of the poems in this collection are very obviously aimed at a specific set of women, but I guarantee that EVERY woman will find something in here.
Nikita Gill continues to write words that I want to gift to my niece when she's old enough, to tell her the things I'm sure my brother won't because he'll never think of it.

The poem style wasn't for me and the subject matter was a bit to woman and mother heavy for my current relationship with gender

Read this while waiting for my cake in the oven. There are some pretty poems, but they're quite straightforward, and sometimes a bit too wishy-washy. Recommend not reading the gutpunch that is Joelle Taylor's poetry before reading this, because they're not the same category of poetry.
