I am a very casual consumer of dc, so I wouldn't say I know much about what's currently happening. I can understand what's going on without feeling lost and the explanations the comic gave for characters that I was not familiar with were sufficient enough. So I would say it can be read by someone who is starting with dc.
Design-wise, this story was nice to look at but there were certain things that bothered me. I liked that the style allowed the characters to show expression without being compromised. I found that on some occasions drawings that are a little bit more in the realistic sense tend to make it hard to express when somebody is feeling something with their face. This did not happen and I'm very happy. It wasn't like it threw me out of the story with an extremely exaggerated anime-like face. However,
when Hush in Bruce Wayne's face came in, I had trouble seeing what made the character look like him. To me, Batman is an inverted triangle, but here he looks like a square. Maybe it's because it's not really him but I did not like it at all. The character design reminds me more of superman than batman. I felt like it was kind of boring and it didn't particularly make it stand out. It's important to keep in mind that, perhaps this was the intention.
Though it felt careless. There is this panel that looked breathtaking of Ivy that I absolutely loved. The drawing at the end of each part was beautiful. Here's the link to what I'm talking about: https://townsquare.media/site/622/files/2016/12/Gotham-City-Sirens-triptych.png?w=630&h=323&q=75
The story was good, not great, but I am enthusiastic that it can get better. It has potential. It gets better at the end of the comic. Catwoman was the star of the night, everything she did make her steal the moment. Which is very in character, she's Catwoman come on.
I liked the arc with her sister, I'm so intrigued that I'm going to search up more about it.
I also enjoyed The Riddler, it was sort of amusing every time he appeared. Harley and Ivy, on the other hand, were not particularly fantastic. Well, of course, this is Harley before she is completely over the Joker. I am too in love with emancipated Harley to go back to before. I still liked her, she's always fun. Ivy was good too, her little adventures were quite interesting. But when she's with the other sirens she kind of fades in. A scene that I did not understand nor liked was when
Harley and Ivy questioned Catwoman about the identity of Batman. It felt unnecessary, they kind of tortured her and when she refused they just dropped it? Like what? And they just keep on going with their life like nothing. I don't know if it's uncommon for villains to want to know their enemies' identities but it felt dumb. What was gained?
Maybe I just don't understand it. Overall, it's a fun time, easy to read, and it's creative. The positive things make up for the negative ones. I am sure in the future it will become a better story.
