This play is an interesting read. I love how it's structured, as snippets of the story Charlotte has told to Doug over their time together instead of something more substantial. It made for a very unique telling of the story of a very unique individual.

Doug does, on several occasions, center himself before he centers Charlotte in the narrative, and he does show his own ignorance on several occasions throughout the writing.

A fascinating portrayal of a remarkable life. Playwright-as-character is far from my favorite device, but in this case it provides a useful scaffold for why Charlotte would be telling us all this. Definitely a product of both Charlotte’s time, and Doug’s. Some of the language jars now, but it is, as Charlotte says, a record presented “as is.”
