Listened to The New Yorker Fiction Podcast's episode with Weike Wang. Really enjoyed Wang's reading, as well as the discussion afterwards. Vapnyar's three different interpretations for this story were interesting to consider. I think it's also interesting to consider both of the girls becoming the real life versions of each other's play dolls when they grow old. There is a sort of unending competition between them to be "better". Overall, a really good short story.

Extremely well read by Weike Wang in the New Yorker fiction podcast - she doesn't put on the affected "writer's voice" while reading; it sounded like how it sounds in my head.

An interesting story. I kind of love in your face irony; this could have felt pat but it doesn't.
