You know when you're watching a movie that was a short film before, and it doesn't really work at feature-length? Even at 113 pages (and these are GOOSEBUMPS pages, mind you) Attack of the Jack O Lanterns can't help but feel that kind of bloated. This is a straight up 2.5 but the ending is cute enough to push it to be a 3.

I donāt remember if I ever read this book as a kid, but I loved the tv show and this was one of my favorite episodes (along with all the haunted mask episodes).
I might be biased but I think it works better in the tv show. The story is the same (as far as I can remember), but it felt really slow and repetitive reading it. The first half was mostly just the main kids planning how they were gonna prank some other kids. It went on too long. The last third is the most interesting part but was still quite repetitive. But Iām not at all the target age for it so I canāt really judge it fairly. The overall story could still be fun for younger readers, I think.
Though part of the story relies on fatphobia that doesnāt really hold up to todayās standards. Considering when it was written Iām not surprised itās there.

Uhā¦ what? The first 8 chapters were so boring, and it was getting good in chapter 9, but then āIt was my daydream.ā What? Really? When something interesting was happening?
Since then, it was boring again, and when finally was getting a bit less slow, the endingā¦ ._.
Another Goosebumps book nor good neither bad, just boring and disappointing.

Goosebumps. This is the series that kept me reading through my childhood. More than any other series, Goosebumps kept me interested in reading, and R.L. Stein is a wonderful children's writer. I applaud his efforts, and can't express enough my gratitude for the series.
