Spoiler: no colaba.

“True love isn’t just a myth or a chemical reaction… It’s everything. It’s her smile. It’s her laugh. It’s her bad days. It’s her good days. It’s her support, her passion, her strength. It’s her brain and her beauty. It’s her. Always has been. Always will be.”

“Sometimes the people are right, but the timing is wrong.” Peyton finds herself fleeing all she knew and loved after her boyfriend Tyler proposes to her, including their three best friends she also loves. Her new life sees her as a world-class diver at the height of her career and tasked with a new job mapping out caves. But an unexpected wrench is thrown into her path when she finds herself with the four men she has been running from as her partners on this mission. A lot can go wrong deep under water, and they find more than just the tension between them putting everything, even their lives, at risk.

A reverse harem thriller? I am immediately sold. Tyler is Peyton's ex-boyfriend and the one that takes the idea of a harem the hardest. He's the supportive best friend you always want by your side. Kalen is Tyler's older brother and the one with the traumatic PTSD from his time in the miltiary. He is brash and aggressive and bursting with rage. Fin is the iconic reverse harem group charming flirt, a ladies man who uses humor as a coping mechanism. And Riggs, my second favorite, is the intelligent, calm, thoughtful one in the bunch.

It was hard not to love all the men in Peyton's life, but Kalen stole my heart. My feminism flew right out the window. He could call me the meanest, nastiest names possible and I would say "thank you, sir, may I have another please." And the way that Riggs proved "the shy/quiet ones that are the freakiest?" They are the types I am always attracted to.

However, Diver's Heart is not just a love story and it is best to go in blind. The adventure and the thriller plot keeps the pace racing and my anxiety high.

❝ The human heart is made to love, and it’s big enough for more than one person. Is it really so wrong? Why does it matter whom I love? Man, woman, fluid? As long as it makes me happy, why should anyone else fucking care? ❞

let me just start off by saying every reverse harem book i've read before pales in comparison because this book right here??? this is the one!

the writing in this was flawless, i could imagine everything the author described from the diving to the adventure, angst, lust, action/horror... the imagery was on point. in the beginning, i got an outer banks type vibe minus the surfing and then when shit hit the fan it was kind of like birdbox.

enter peyton, she's a world class diver at only 24 years old and is given the opportunity of a life time to co-lead with another group of divers in exploring an unknown place in South America. ready for a new challenge the one thing she didn't expect however is to come face to face with the man (and men) she loved and ultimately left behind 3 years ago.

tyler, kalen, fin and riggs are also experienced divers and explorers, all of whom for the past 3 years have been surviving the loss of the only girl they've ever loved when peyton rejected tyler's proposal because deep down she knew he wasn't the only she loved.

miss girl loved them all

now they're all being forced to work together and the path isn't easy when your dealing with emotions such as anger, lust, hurt and longing. but what they can't predict, is the dark depth of the caves where they face danger and need to work together to stay alive.

»»— peyton —««

❝ She’s sugar, spice, and everything nice… until she’s not. Until she’s a fucking hellcat, a troublemaker in a beautifully strong package.❞

i loved peyton. K.A Knight is known for having baddass, strong FMC and peyton did not disappoint.

this girl knows her flaws and she embraces them head on. she was 21 years old when she left, scared because her heart is simply too big to love only one person and why should she when all her life she was brought up to be friends with these 4 men who protected and loved her?

she ran because she couldn't choose between them, but i also think she was right in her own anger and pain because the boys (especially tyler) didn't chase her. they let her go (which was for the best because the time apart allowed them all to acknowledge and confess their individual feelings). peyton proved time and time again she was no damsel in distress and that's the type of shit i wanna see from my FMC's.

»»— the boys —««

❝ Tyler is lost, Fin is clinging to you like nothing happened, Riggs is scared, and me? I’m fucking terrified of what you could do. I don’t think we could survive it again.❞

tyler - ex-boyfriend and peyton's first love, he was HURTTTTTTT and rightfully so my mans got down on one knee and proposed!!! tyler was the dad of the group, and always saw peyton as his side kick. he was jealous and angry at first but watching him slowly accept everything and the way he just championed her? yea he's a sweetheart.

kalen - tylers older brother, he's always had a volatile relationship with peyton, and was struggling with his demons from his time in the military until peyton. he hated the fact that he was in love with his brothers girl, so he would mask it all with aggression and fighting with peyton. kalen showed the most growth for me, and was the most developed character. watching his anger slowly form into a fierce love was truly *chefs kiss*.... homeboy can like get it.

fin - there's always the funny/charming playboy in a harem and fin was the resident flirty cocky boy. he was one of peyton's best friends, always there to put a smile on her face. he hid his love for her through humor and was immediately welcoming to peyton. deep down he knew why she had to leave, but he never resented her for it as hard as tyler or kalen.

riggs - our resident genius was also peyton's best friend and it hit him hard when she left, she was the only thing that could quiet the numbers in his head. but that didn't mean he gave up on her, he was also willing to forgive her pretty much straight away but was the last to stake his claim on her because he gave her time to sort through her feelings (what a thoughtful king). i loved his calm demeanor but don't let that fool you cos it's always the quiet ones who are the freakiest lol.

。☆✼★━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━★✼☆。

❝ Down in the cave, we found love, we found forever, but that’s the easy part. The hard part is fighting for it, keeping it alive. But if anyone can, it’s us. Together.❞

this book took me on a journey! the closest thing i've ever been to diving is watching tom daley in the 2012 olympics (i swear every british teenage girl had a crush on him lol). so i was pleasantly surprised when i was hooked straight away. i had multiple tabs open on google ready to sort through any diving terminology like the intellectual queen i am.

this book gave me a sense of adventure, romance, suspense and nail-biting action, i loved the unique plot. this really isn't like any other reverse harems i've read before as about 80% of them are high school bully books. genuinely go in and read this book blind, just know you'll come out with a sense of feeling grateful to be alive and marvelling at how much you have yet to explore of the world.

the only reason it's not a full 5 stars is because i would've liked to get some flashbacks of the past, get a little deeper in peytons relationships especially with fin and riggs but those are just minor details.

»»--------- SPOILER ALERT ---------««

“love isn’t restricted. It isn’t a percentage you give out, it’s endless and can stretch to fit anyone.”

Rachel picked this for my friends choose read this year. Rachel and I see eye to eye on almost every single book and every single character. However, this one will be one that just missed the mark a little. I really enjoyed the suspense parts of this book, I just felt the why choose parts fell a little flat. All of the spicy scenes were exactly the same and the MMCs didn’t have enough differences about them to really stand out. This was a new author to me and I am excited to try something else. I am ready for Rachel to harass me to read more of her books.

Throw all notions of reality away, and you might enjoy this actually. It’s not bad, it’s just a crockpot of melodrama.

IN the beginning of the story, we get the first encounter replayed AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN 5 times, through five different perspectives where each character laments on their reactions. Talk about a lack of subtlety

Also why is everyone so melodramatic?

Tyler’s “I had to be the leader my people expected me to be,” ass is out here acting like he’s manning a ruthless GOT-style kingdom not a diving expedition meet and greet.

Kalen or Mr. “if I’m not fighting you I don’t care about you” needs some serious anger control therapy, always growling at everyone like a mangy dog.

Riggs and his “she left, they always do” ass (after not even telling Peyton how he feels!!) needs to leave that cheese to the hallmark movies.

Finn and his “Love disappeared into a cloud of smoke. love is a fucking lie” spiel was just as nauseating. Dude she didn’t know you liked her, she wasn’t even dating you.

Stuff that I noticed:
• Too much telling and not enough showing, and if there is showing, we dumb-dumb readers need to be told what we are being shown:

example: Character watches Peyton with“Fatherly eyes”— WE ALREADY UNDERSTOOD THAT HE WAS SOME KIND OF FATHER FIGURE, it’s chapter 10, gosh we readers aren’t even THAT dense. What the hell even are fatherly eyes?

• The struggle of the bromance. The author really tried to sell it to us, but man, it was not done well. If you read it, it flowed, but if you paused for a second and wondered if the words coming out of these guys’ mouths would ever come out of a regular dude’s mouth— then it got a little rough.

Example:
“Brother, are you safe?” Tyler (to Riggs). They all call each other “brother” a lot actually, The only people who call each other brother (instead of bro) In a non-joking/unironjc way are 1) People not from this century 2) People who try to write siblings but have none of their own.

Also, honourable mention: Using weird sex words like “release” instead of coming, in regular convos between the bros.

• Jealousy, ‘Alpha Rage’ between the guys, so much so that it feels like they are the type of dudes who say “no homo” after they accidentally brush shoulders.

•“We are apex predators for life and she is our queen.”

NO MY GUY, Y’ALL ARE DEEP DIVERS!

If this was a fantasy or paranormal setting or even if they were hunters or some shit, it would be plausible to call them “apex predators.”

But in what delusional spin of reality does a fucking deep DIVER (who usually assist in underwater repairs, rescue missions, etc. Aka the EXACT OPPOSITE of an ~ predator~) become a fucking APEX PREDATOR.

Even I could not suspend that much disbelief.

Anyways, clearly this is meant to be a guilty pleasure read, and it does have some good humour. The heroine is pretty cool too and the writing style is solid enough to get through.

Just be warned that you will definitely need to block out that inner voice of yours that questions the plausibility of things.
