Another Leigh Bardugo banger! This was such a rush. The plot, the pacing, the characters, were all incredible.

Admittedly, some bits got a bit muddled like in Ninth House, but most moments of confusion were purposefully crafted. I love the direction the story is going, the growth of relationships, and how the characters are evolving.

Bardugo’s greatest strength as a writer is her ability to make you think without slowing you down. You can easily sit down with one of her books and read and read and read, even while taking in twisty plots and thought-provoking revelations. Her stories are so easy to devour, and I’m always hungry for more.

This was a wild ride.
In the middle I was quite overwhelmed and I didn't feel like the different threads were connected and didn't understand what was everything about. But at the 75% mark I thought, this is genius, everything is connecting, this is interesting, this could be fun.
In the end, I felt she overdone it a little bit. The plot twist started coming and they didn't stop coming and it felt like too much of a good thing.
Also, I'm still not over
the vampires, even if the twist on this concept is quite interesting.

I'm a little bit sad, that this took the time to bring all the loose ends to an end and she still choose to not let this be finished and let it open for another book.
The rabbit broke me. I was sobbing so bad.

I still really enjoyed this book, but the major themes differed greatly from what I loved and what intrigued me in the first book. This book was less dark academia/Yale and secret society lore, which I missed. And while the plot had plenty to twists and turns, some parts were slow and I didn’t really see where the book was going. This book takes the series in a different direction than the first, and I’m not sure if I will like that direction as much as the first book. Though I’m excited to read more in the series and see how it goes!
