On a very hot day, Kishi and Renee are not talking to one another. But as the day progresses (and various neighbors try to bring them together), they continue to ignore their friend. Finally, a group of their friends playing double dutch lures them together, and they remember why they are best friends.

The illustrations are incredibly unique: part cut paper and part mixed media.

Javaka Steptoe’s art shines in this homage to childhood friendship; the illustrations pop right out of the pages. The story is quite lovely too, showing the silly things friends fight about and how easy it is to make up.
