“Every city is a ghost.

New buildings rise upon the bones of the old so that each shiny steel beam, each tower of bricks carries within it the memories of what has gone before, an architectural haunting. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of these former incarnations in the awkward angle of a street or a filigreed gate, an old oak door peeking out from a new facade, the plaque commemorating the spot that was once a battleground, which became a saloon and is now a park.

Underground, it's no different."

The opening sentences and concept of Lair of Dreams reeled me. But gradually this sequel of The Diviners dragged along becoming tedious and boring. 2.5 rating

4.5 stars.

I seriously love this series. This book took me a little while to get through just because it was so long and had so much information. I love all the characters and enjoyed the story. The plot is always really good in this series so I was on the edge of my seat.

Sam is my absolute favorite character, omg what a king. I loved every single scene with him. Some of my favorite parts of this book were Sam and Evie’s detective work, where they were always doing some kind of criminal activity and breaking in somewhere. I loved the fake engagement, they really are going slow-burn huh.

Theta is also one of my favorite characters, and Ling is a new fave as well. Theta x Memphis is such a good relationship, like why can’t Theta be HONEST with Memphis, you know he’s still going to love you so hurry up and TELL HIM!!!!!!

Just want to add, my favorite thing is when Theta calls Evie by her nickname “Evil” because it’s so fitting for Evie and her dumb ass (I say this affectionately).

One of the best parts of the book was at the end where everyone FINALLY gets together and solves the damn mystery, after 500+ pages of being separate. I wish we could have gotten a little less of the Ling and Henry dream stuff and a longer climax at the end where they solve the mystery and banish Wai-Mae. I just felt like it dragged on a little bit too long with Henry and Ling just chilling in the dream world, and with Louis too, I was just like UGHHH reveal the twist already because I guessed that Wai-Mae was the ghost already, and Henry’s dependence on Louis kind of got annoying after a while when I already had a feeling that Louis was a ghost too.

I thought that the mystery/thriller vibe was put together super well and the suspense was great. Overall, loved this book, Libba Bray please give me more Sam!

I loved the characters, especially Evie and Sam. Their chapters gave me life. I also really liked Ling and Henry and their friendship.
The plot was really interesting in my opinion. I did predict some things but it definitely didn't take away from my enjoyment. And the ending! It left me with so many questions and has me anticipating the next book so much.

I wanted to love this instalment. There is some fantastic rep in the book. I simply found Evie to be intolerable and a lot of the other characters to be ... boring?
I won't be continuing with the series.

While much more "scatter brained" than the first Diviners book this one still holds strong and delivers

I was disappointed with this book. I absolutely LOVED the first one, but this one just didn't have the same umpf. The last 75 pages or so were fantastic, but for a book over 600 pages, that's really less than ideal. The overall story was good, but it took me forever to get through this.

I'll definitely pick up the next book in this series whenever it comes out, I just hope it's better than this one.

Another great book in the Diviners series! 4.5 stars.

It took me quite some time to really get into this book, but when I did? I flew right through it. Why did it take me so long to get into it? And, I have to confess, I even wanted to drop it. Well, that has to do with the same problem I had with the previous book. Too many POV. At times even switching mid-chapter/with the next sentence. We even have some new characters in this one, and boy, was I confused and I just couldn't like them. But then later I got more and more used to it (though I never did truly like it). My favourite girl (Evie) barely got time, and she also seemed more a party girl than she did before. It was quite amazing. She was already a big lover of parties, but it seemed the fame had gone to her head (though later we do find out why she parties like this, and while I can understand why, I still don't think this is the best way).

I was also frustrated with the love triangle between Evie, Sam, Jericho. Come on, just decide already. It got quite annoying and I was just shaking my head. Jericho is such a knucklehead, and Sam, while he is nice, he also has some stuff I didn't like.

I hated Blind Bill. Bah, I already was disgusted by what he did in the previous book, but I can tell you this, his parts made me want to just burn the book. Sadly I am guessing he will be getting bigger parts as the books continue, and I am bothered by that. :|

Instead of one mass-murderer on the loose, we now have a sleeping disease which causes people to stay stuck in their dreams and dream forever. I must say it was done really effectively, though I kept wondering why it took our characters so long to finally get the hint and understand what was wrong. I mean, as soon as I saw that girl in the dreams? I knew what was up.
I liked the chapters that talked about the victims, it was interesting to see what happened to them and how the disease worked.

The whole Lois/Louis business? I knew for the get-go what happened and why he was finally able to meet him like that. I was like DUH! why don't you know this? Why did it take AGES for both dreamwalkers to finally get the hint? *sighs*

We also find out quite a bit about Sam's past, how Will is involved in it all, and several other things, it really made the book great.

Mm, what more, I think I got all of it. I really liked the book, and I will be eagerly waiting for the next one.

*Cue “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac*

I had such a good time reading this book. Libba Bray does this crazy thing where she has a cast of eight characters who you care for and want to succeed. The 600 pages flew by, and I thought it was a great addition to the first book!
