I started out enjoying this more than the original novel, Swordspoint, but as the intrigue and general treachery increased, my enjoyment decreased. This does have a few likeable characters - something that I find necessary and which I found lacking in the original. I did go ahead and purchase the 2nd half but I don't know if I'll read past the first season. I read this for my 2016 Reading Challenge "read a book and its prequel" (PopSugar).
