some of those stories in this collection are absolutely magnificent. however, not all of them have a lot of plot going on, which is something i tend not to favor with short stories. if you love literary magazines you’ll love this collection.

This is one of my favorite short story collections I’ve read in awhile! The stories are super short (5-6 pages for most, I think the longest is maybe 15), which I love. I don’t think any work of literature needs to be long to be good. They really pack a punch and fit well together as they touch on similar themes—motherhood, marriage, loneliness, loss of self, etc. It’s depressing at times, but mostly funny and sharply observant and smart. There are so many great lines in here! Loved it and would highly recommend.

This was a really interesting read as while this is a collection of short stories some felt like poems and some felt like watching part of a tv show you’ve never seen before. The characters were complex and dealt with a variety of emotions and questions in these peeks into their lives. I can’t say this was a super uplifting read but more a series of character studies of people with something missing or unfinished in their lives at the point we’re looking in. I liked some stories better than others of course but this was good for a quick read that was out of the box for my normal reading style.
