Almost a solid 4, but just a little bit off. 3.75 stars maybe?

I definitely liked it more than I thought I would, and I liked it more when I got further into the story. At first I wasn’t really a fan of Holden’s characters, but at the same time he’s just a kid so. The part that’s most memorable for me is when he went to NYC and stayed in the hotel. I can feel the depression and despair coming out of the book at me. I absolutely loved that part; it is so depressing to read but it is so real and relatable. I think that’s why this book resonates with so many people. It’s that truly hopeless night in NY that made everything that comes afterwards seem more nice than it appears to be. I’m really glad to see him being real with himself, feeling and conveying real emotions (good or bad) instead of constantly playing this weird character. And the ending is really touching because of the character’s redemption. I wasn’t really a fan of the story or the theme or the character, but I just loved the way it’s written and how it is capable of conveying feelings even though it’s pain and depression.
