While I like the trajectory that Ava is on, I missed meeting the regular characters. There was little in the story about her partners or her family.

Maybe it’s my own fault for not researching that this book was part of a series, but as a stand alone book, it is not enjoyable. Nothing helped set up the characters back stories and there was nothing tidy about the ending. It was rather boring through out, with too many side stories that made no sense.

Disappointing.

Have been a fan of Ian Hamilton's Ava Lee and read every book in this mystery/suspense/thriller series. This novel did not read anything like the quality of the others. The conclusion was obvious from the beginning - no suspense, no mystery. The 'action' was nothing like we're used to getting when Ava Lee is involved; just a couple of scraps with goons who needed an attitude adjustment - no thrills, no risks, no life or death challenges.

This novel read much more like a weak 'mystery', concocted to provide romantic tension. It even failed at that.

Am hoping the real Ava Lee shows up in the next novel.

i loved this book!!! though i will say i had no idea this was a whole series and i was already on the 12th so i had no expectations - just saw that the character was sapphic and went straight for it! i thought the plot was super interesting and it really just felt like i was watching a movie. I am hesitant on reading the whole series however just because i won't be starting on a clean slate and will be more biased on how I want the book to go.
update: THE AUTHOR IS A WHITE MAN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Might have been better had I read the other books. But ugh, painfully slow.

I love the character of Ava Lee. Great recurring characters.

Wonderfully vivid and luscious descriptions of the foods she eats. The places she goes. It's like a travelogue wrapped around a forensic accountant/mystery adventures.

This one dragged just a little in the middle.

The only flat spot, yet again, is the lesbian love scenes. Yawn.

There seemed to be something missing with this novel. I love Ian Hamilton and Ava Lee but this one just didn't seem to meet the expectations...

Another good Ava Lee novel, focuses mostly around her and Fai's relationship in this novel. And like most of the other novels I will continue requesting that Ava Lee use her fancy martial arts moves to kick even more ass. Specifically those of men who try to belittle her and hurt the ones she loves.
