Unfortunately, this was not as ground breaking as I initially thought it was going to be. Of course, there are three books and I have time to find out if the whole series is baloney, but I donβt REALLY have high hopes.
The one thing I HATED in the book, like really disliked, was the age gap in all of her romance. It was so Weird to read and just unnecessary. Of course all of the real plot twists came 200 pages in and that was cool, but the scenes and plot lines prior to the plot twists werenβt interesting enough for me to be SO PULLED AND SHOCKED by the twistsβ¦
Also why is a newly 16 year old, who was never allowed to date and has never dated before, dating a boy from her school AND A GRADUATED 18 year old? Sadly, The Fallenβs downfall was not the supernatural abilities or world building, it was Chloeβs romantic relationships. Iβm not a prude by any means, but this girl was really getting frisky at 15-16. And if Braswell only made her raunchy and filled with lust because it βdisplays cat-like attitude.β Actually shut up. I hate that. And itβs not true!
Like I said, Iβm not a prude and I know this is YA but, why Braswell is pushing the cheating narrative and completely saying itβs normal to be filled with desire for a 22 year old at 15. AND ACTUALLY ACT ON THAT! Is beyond meβ¦
Like. If weβre showing younger girls how to be confident in their bodies and safe, THAT AINT THE WAY SISTER!!! Just strange.
Unfortunate. The characters were pretty solid but the way they thought was weird and the arguments and real βpersonal relationshipsβ didnβt really feel real to me
:( sorry Braswell!

Ah! refreshing. Just as lovely as it was in highschool the first three times I read it.
revisiting a book like this is great. I know whats going to happen, but have forgotten JUST enough, that it is still wonderful.
AND the netflix series for this? BOMBS. Jerks left out half the story in just the pilot episode -.-

WOW! This book is so bad. I, like many others, watched the ABC Family adaptation, and I remember liking it (I was 11 when it came out though lol), so I wanted to read the original story, especially since the series got cancelled. But this was just plain awful.
The characters were so unbelievably annoying and irritating, especially Chloe. She was probably the worst part, to be honest. Her attitude towards literally everyone really got on my nerves. Her friends weren't the greatest, especially Amy, but she was pretty rude to them too, and she wanted to shift all the blame to them. I also didn't appreciate how she kept calling Alyec (that's how it was spelled in the novel) stupid throughout the whole book either. She spent no time actually getting to know him, and just assumed things about him. Brian was bland and predictable, which sucks because I liked him a lot in the show.
But the worst crime this book committed, was being unbearably boring. I could not get immersed or invested in anything that was happening at all. The writing was also really poor, it made it hard to visualize or sympathize with anything. It's incredibly disappointing how all of this potential was lost. The idea of this story is fascinating, hence why I've wanted to read it for so long. I can't say that I would recommend this to anyone.

I really enjoyed this read, i went past like a breeze and story also felt unique. Never read something similar, only maybe by Latvian author. Frankly cats is not my favorite theme to read about, but this was a good read.

It was really different from the show on abc.... i thought the show was going to be retarted and it was amazing and then i thought i should read the books and that they would be as good as the show and then they were sorta reatarted in a over-hormonal high school girl way. not the best book by far but now i have to know what happens next..ughh i'm hooked!!!

I deliberately waited on starting this series because there was so much hype focused around not only this book, but this show on TV as well. It seemed like everyone was talking about both the book and the TV series, but as always I was late to the party.
When I first started reading this, I kept trying to imagine it in my head since I haven't watched a single episode. So I started out slow with just the first book in the series instead of devouring it all at once. I loved the story structure and the writing the author uses in the book. The characters were fun to read about and Chloe was definitely one to enjoy. Unfortunately, this wasn't a great book in my opinion. Like I said, I was enjoying the story and characters but something just wasn't clicking with me. I couldn't get my enthusiasm up for reading the rest of the books.
While I tried time and again to really try to like the book, it just didn't happen for me. Maybe the TV series will be a better suited match for me than the actual book this time around.
