I was not impressed with the revelment of the Grim Reaper's duties or that the Undertaker was a former Grim Reaper, but the origin story for Sebastian and Ciel was amazing.

Rating Update 4/5/2019- 4 stars to 2 stars. The flashback to the origin story is great but the exposition for the showdown and dialogue takes a toll.

Update August 2, 2019
With the adoption of my new rating system, a two star rating is befitting. The original review and rating update from April 5, 2019, conform to the new rating system. Having read the synopsis of each chapter in this volume, I have conjured up visually certain scenes but cannot remember how I felt about the volume with certainty. I do recall being bored with the long fight scenes but what lifts this volume from a one to a two star rating is the origin story of Ciel and Sebastian. If the three chapters on the fight scenes were rated at one star, the first chapter on Elizabeth was rated at two tars, and the final chapter on Ciel and Sebastian's origin story was rated at three stars, the cumulative rating would be 1.6 stars, which rounds to 2 stars. The 1.6 stars is a very safe assessment. I cannot say for certain whether the three chapters on the fighting are all one star rated, which is why I do not have a more accurate rating.

It's been a long time since I've reviewed a volume of Black Butler - it's been almost two years and twelve volumes since then, actually. Since then, this series has taken a whole lot of twists and turns, and it's always been fun following the adventures of Ciel and Sebastian. Lately, Black Butler has gotten a hell of a lot more bloodier than ever before. Victorian killer zombies on a doomed cruise at sea? Just another day for the Phantomhive child heir.

WOW, so many things happening in this volume, where to begin?! We learn a bit about the pasts of many people and have a pretty epic four-way fight that results in our flashback to when Ciel first met Sebastian. Or rather, what happens after they made their pact and Sebastian begins his duties as a butler. Sebastian is pretty much a perfect Butler now, but it wasn't always like this and it was interesting to see the interaction between the two. Actually, I always love seeing how they interact, especially when Sebastian lets out some of that snark

And if you weren't drooling over *someone* before this, well, you might be now. At this point, it feels like most everyone who seemed to be "just side characters" have developed into really cool characters and/or are enveloped in some mystery that I'm hoping will be revealed soon!

4.5 I loved lizzy's backstory and I'm in love with Sebastian. It was hilarious seeing the banter between Sebastian and Ciel again. I also loved seeing the vulnerable and sassy side of Ciel. Wtf undertaker?! That little shit.

Much better than the previous one. A lot less Lizzie, except in the beginning, unfortunately... It's still a continuation of the zombie; Titanic premise which I'm not very interested in. The best thing about this volume (i.e. the whole reason I'm giving it 3 stars) was the ending where we got more backstory about Sebastian and Ciel's partnership. I loved seeing their earlier interactions and comparing it to now, how their relationship has developed. After all, my obsession with this series is largely due to the main overarching plot regarding Sebastian and Ciel, and it has been taking a backseat to this zombie; Titanic Lizzie debacle.
