This was one hell of an intense book. Not just because of the subject but also of the way the story was told. It is written in free verse and even though sometimes it was a little hard to read (maybe because I read it in e-book format and also maybe because I was sick) it is a brilliant way of telling this story. It kind of felt like it took us on the rhythm of Kristina’s life if that makes any sense.

Crank is such a scary powerful story. It shows us the life of an addict without sugarcoating any of it. It tells us how simply you could slip and that it can happen to everyone and that you should always be careful. Kristina makes a lot of bad choices some that she can’t really help because of the grip that crank has on her, but as the reader you see the bad choices and you can learn from them.

As a character I didn’t really like Kristina that much. I didn’t really relate to her (not just because of the drugs) or anything and usually when this happens I can’t finish the book. Characters are always the most important thing about a book for me, but this time it didn’t really matter. After a few pages I was completely engrossed by the book and finished it the same night. I will definitely read the next two books in the series and I recommend this book to everyone. For it’s message alone, it should be read by every teen.
