Fascinating tales that illustrate the Victorian obsession with the body. Full of facts and biographical anecdotes. Very enjoyable and interesting read.

This was an absolutely fascinating read - in depth investigation into the victorians and the pecularities of their bodies!

Written by someone who clearly has a love of words, sometimes this didn’t flow as well as I wanted it to, especially since I was listening to the audio version. This book bases its exploration of Victorian society and politics around the bodies of famous people – ingenious but sometimes tenuous. I skipped half the chapter about Darwin’s beard… The last story is gruesome but worth the wait, especially for fans of cold cases and true crime.
