I adored the short story version is all it’s chilling glory. The graphic novel and audiobook are even better! The audiobook team really deserved that Audie award. Wonderful acting and perfect foley! The graphic novel is beautifully illustrated by Dani Pendergast. I love seeing all the character’s facial expressions. Even if you’ve read the original short story, be sure to check out this iteration!

I absolutely loved the artwork and being able to get an insight further into the Darkling's past. But also, damn, I did not expect that.

This adaptation did a much better job at connecting Grisha infighting with Grisha persecution, so the narrative made sense in relation to the resolution and character development. The art was nice; I particularly liked the light line weight and the lettering.

However, this was definitely not as entertaining as the original short story on which this is based. The original content was snappier, and I preferred the narrative structure of present-past-present as it created mystery and a sense of foreboding. Unfortunately this was pretty linear and even added unnecessary events - it seemed like there was an excess of panels used, too.
