Breathtaking. The art is absolutely gorgeous. Leigh chose the best possible artist for this adaptation. It just fits the story so well! This was an amazing origin story for the Darkling and really makes us question if he's a villain or a hero. The story was absolutely HEARTBREAKING and made me feel a lottttt of complex emotions. This was such an outstanding adaptation and I loved how the story developed from the original short! I honestly think this was a 6/5 book it was just that good. This definitely is my favorite graphic novel coming from someone who's read a huge amount of graphic novels in my time. GO READ THIS!!!!

The artwork in this book was stunning and Leigh Bardugo’s storytelling of some of the Darkling’s origin story made me want to reread the whole Grishaverse again.

I haven’t read Shadow & Bone yet, but I’ve read Six of Crows so I knew a bit about the world. I don’t typically read graphic novels but this was a fun and quick experience! It was interesting and mysterious. I wish I could read more about this origin story, it was over too quick for me.

This was a gorgeously illustrated story, just like most graphic novels it was way too short! The story is also really predictable. It didn't really make me like the story any less but still.

I did find it quite interesting to read about a young Darkling though. He seems really different to his older self but I guess that's because he's young and still figuring stuff out.
(like how to be evil 101)

This book also gives a lot of backstory that makes sense with what we already know from reading Shadow and Bone. It explains why the Darkling always sees himself as a hero and a protector. Also why his name is of such importance to him. He has lived a long life and been through some tough stuff. And I enjoyed reading a bit about his mum. That explains why he is the way he is at least to some extent.

It kind of feels like reading a redemption arc of a Villain but it's his backstory?
I would recommend this book to any Grishaverse fans out there but I don't think it would be very enjoyable to read if you have never read a book by Leigh Bardugo before. Some terms like otkazat'sya for example had even me unsure of what they mean. And though most of it can be guessed from context I still think it would be a confusing read for most people.
