“His voice was like the rest of him. Rough and weak and exhausted, it was the voice of the victim, the voice of a man who had gotten into things way over his head.”
Trying to find information on a long dead writer, Andy uncovered something much more sinister, something that isn't finished stringing you along and leaving behind a trail of bodies.
If you are a fan on long intricate mysteries and trying to figure out who was piling up the bodies then this is a novel for you. It almost feels like two books in one. The first half is a jigsaw puzzle where you are unsure of what the picture is, you see glimpses of images but how are they all going to go together. The second half turns into a fast paced thriller mystery, racing to see who is still alive at the end.
I’m going to miss these characters, most have their small town quirkiness that attach to your heart even if (and maybe because) they are grumpy old folks that don’t want to be bothered. The writing is immersive, making you part of the cast even when the action wasn’t present. I will leave you with one of the quotes that left me thinking for quite awhile.

“You had inside you the power to do what was right, to reject the darkness, to choose light, to climb beyond all your baser impulses, and to use that power at the moment it was needed, without review, without debate, without analyzing or agonizing over it. You did it because it was necessary.”
