I’d read a couple of her other essay collections, but I wanted to go back to her first one to see what it was like. This one is equally as funny and relatable as it is gruesome. You get to hear about her life growing up, her mom and her dad’s more or less simultaneous deaths, and all the shit that comes with it.

A little too much poop for me.

I love Irby, she is an authentic and hilarious writer. I didn’t love this one as much as “we are never meeting in real life”, but I think that is just that her work became more polished. Definitely worth the read.

Well, this got gross fast. There were a few chuckles to be had near the beginning-- I particularly enjoyed Irby's discussion of different diets-- but this quickly turned aggressively nasty and made me go from light interest in what she was talking about into a desire to close the book and be done with this and anything else she's ever written.
