I was one of thousands of girls that had Leif’s posters on my wall and his album on my record player. I had absolutely no idea that he was mainly lip syncing so much. Sounds like he was taken advantage of as well as he took advantage of his fame. Drugs and alcohol were so easy to come by for a star and it sounds like there were many close calls to death. I’m assuming that that’s passed and he has gotten clean, although it was never specifically mentioned. I really enjoyed this more than I expected, I only wish he narrated it himself.

I was a huge fan when Leif first became popular and as with most teen idols as they disappear you don't think about them much anymore. When I came across this book I knew that I had to read it and hear his story.
It was heartbreaking to read. All the signs of a non-present father and trying to take care of his mom and sister. I loved that he didn't sugar coat anything and told the good, the bad and the ugly. Growing up as a child with an alcoholic father I have seen the getting clean and falling back into the cycle of addiction. It's not easy or pretty.
Happy to hear he's come out on the better side and is finally able to show the world who he is and let them hear his voice.

Leif Garrett has a special place in my heart because he was my very first concert. I was also the only one who climbed up on stage and he gave me his scarf. I still have it to this day - many decades later. I am one of the fans whose walls were plastered with his photos. I had his albums and all of the magazines. Reading "Idol Truth: A Memoir" is so sad. It is almost a cliche of how teen idols are chewed up and spit out by the people who manage them. I hope this book brings comfort to Leif so he can close a chapter of his life. I wish him good health and peace. A great read for fans of his and of any celebrity.
