I was lucky enough to get a free copy of this book from the author through twitter. (Book reads).
For me this is a story worth reading. I find myself even now after reading this story (& some chapters more than once) still thinking about the book.
The characters are complex and have a secret that keeps you intrigued. Dave the recycler came across as slightly stalker but almost all knowing. Followed with the paranoia of Nancy and Becky. Brilliant.
The writing is very well done, with changes from first to third person. At first was different but further into the story became addictive almost like you are watching a story than reading it.
I could go on about this book, but I strongly think you should read the story, as I think everyone will take something different from this author.

Holy sh*t! I don't even know where to start. I'm still reeling from the ride and can't distinguish if I have been mind f*cked or had my mind blown. I would hazard a guess as both; first f*cked then blown.
First let me tell you this is part of a series. I did not know that. I was led to this book by BookTasters, (thank you), who were offering as a review consideration book. I prefer to go into those books with little to no information beside genres. So I read it as a standalone. I did suspect, after reading it a bit that I might have missed a book. I was, however, able to fully enjoy and follow this book on its own.
The genre I was given for this was suspense thriller with hashtags of political and conspiracy. I ride the fence on accepting these. I don't know about you but I am freaking tired of politics, lies, fake news along with general crying and whining from all parties as well as the public. But then psychological was thrown in the ring and I am huge on psychological thrillers. I am so happy that was tossed out there as I might have missed this gem.
So what is the book about? All those things and more that I am so freaking tired of! So how did I get sucked into not being able to stop reading? The author, (who I don't know anything really about), is a master at weaving current events, current theories, and fantasy into a magical mystery tour where the three are blurred so well you basically feel as though you lost your mind. Of course you must find it so you have to keep reading. Can you trust anything or anybody in it? I waffled on who could be trusted, who should be trusted, throughout the book only to be blown up at the end. I don't know; maybe I would have known who to trust if I had read the books in order. My personal feeling about this book...stop reading reviews. Go in with what you know and let the story unfold for you. Decide for yourself if you will read them in order or not. I will be reading the other parts to this but at this moment, I can't recommend which way to go on that. What I can tell you is to read this book even if you are tired of what is going on in this country. Maybe I should have used especially instead of even there.
Thank you to the author who provided an ebook for review consideration. The opinions expressed are my honest thoughts, (jumbled as my mind still is from reading this).

This book is said to be a “five-star sequel to the author’s acclaimed debut novel.” 7 pages of glowing “Professional Reviews” preempt its beginning. Am I so jaded that I failed to agree? I'm not usually one to trash a book, but she did it first.

Nancy, the so far main character, is sitting in a closed-in porch she rents. She is not wearing her medical burn mask or wig. There is the fog. One of her piano students is playing a Mozart assignment next door. An ice cream truck plays a piano tune coming up the hill. She has escaped the Nevermind. But she has placed us directly in it. Never mind this book. It's like a list of statements. No segue, no flow.

The window she is sitting against is shattered when something hits it. She looks out, “kneeling in the shards, bleeding through her jeans.” Then she goes out to investigate, looking in the hedges below that shattered window. For reasons unknown, she happens to have a pair of “thin gloves” that are are pulled from her pocket. We have no clue as to why they are there. Then from the dense bushes, with her “face bent to the ground” she sets the snowball she found there “in a pan in the sink” .. Who has sinks with pans out in their shrubbery? Or did she go back inside and the author forgot to mention it?

I actually quit reading right there. My “to be read” stack is too massive for such a poorly written then pathetically edited book. And this was only page 3! But I said I would give an honest review, so I again tried.

Some parts are overly written while others vastly undone. Too many “the” this & “the” that without introduction into the story line, where an “a” this or that would make more sense. “She moved it to the top of the wooden stove.” What? The snowball? The pan holding it? “She wadded up the newspaper.” These are not selected lines, it’s just the choppy way it’s written. Mind you, I’m still only on page 3.

Then, alll the way to page 4, in the first paragraph, she contemplated eating the snowball, given that it appears to be tossed by the ice cream vendor, but worries about “Chocking on a cherry bomb.” Same page brings the convoluted paragraph “She felt herself begin to break into action. She’d started hitchhiking some nights when she just couldn’t take the restlessness, throwing herself upon the whiskey city. Waking, forgetting from so much intensity. She could feel a hitch down the mountain coming on that night. A chance for adventure, where anything could happen. Some knowledge was growing in her, and she didn’t know why, or what it was. But whatever it was meant business.”

Then, next line.. she’s looking around in a shed. Again, when did she go out to it? Suffice it to say, it gets no better, so save yourself the frustration I just went through in just 4 pages. Just Recycle Before Use! Yecch!
