I'm really happy that the author and illustrator reconsidered and changed the monkey to another animal given the detailed research Edi Campbell has been providing about the use of monkeys in books and media https://crazyquiltedi.blog/2018/07/20/monkey-business/.
Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of Jack. I think children will enjoy this more than adults. It is definitely going to make many laugh as they see all of the naughty behavior. It's just not my kind of humor.

Jack is my favorite new bad guy. He's deliciously bad, with big eyes that will melt your heart on one page...but it's all a trick, because on the next page, his eyes narrow, and he's drawing on the wall! You'll fall in love with this little monster.

It's okay. A little flat but I think that was intentional. Could be an alternative to Mo Willem's Cat the Cat series as a "pre-easy reader." Also reads like a young Rotten Ralph. I think the title is not completely relevant to the story but I guess Bad Jack might have send the wrong message.
There are three characters in this book. Jack, the monkey main character. Rex, the dog. And the Lady who is a little old lady. It feels incredibly loaded that the Lady is the only character who doesn't have a name and that might be my biggest issue here.

Oh my Jack! He is definitely not a great role model, but my 5-year-old, who is a reluctant reader can't be bothered by that. He actually wanted to read about Jack, even though some stories just did not make much sense.

This is one of this series that is definitely written for children, not adult readers because kids are going to get a real kick out of this naughty monkey!
update 10.20.19 - I'm glad the publisher pulled the original series and changed Jack from a monkey to a rabbit. However, I'm still, as an adult reader, not in love with Jack and the things he does - seems to go beyond naughty and just rude. But, I'm interested in seeing kids' reactions to this character.

I'm nonplussed by Jack's interest in petty theft. But I guess kids will find it funny and not disturbing? It was a very good choice to change the protagonist from a brown monkey to a gray bunny.

Wow! This book was awful. In between the terrible behavior and complacency of the characters I was rather disappointed. The part however that made it terrible to me is when they DO finally say something about his behavior and tell him that he is bad over and over. This is how you teach kids that their behavior is just who they are not something they've done. YOU are bad vs what you did was bad.
