Nightwolf

Cue the water works. I may just be in my emotions, but damn. This was the perfect snack of a book to fill in between series.

the rest in the universe were so good, so I put this one off for awhile. it probs would have been even better straight after when I was still emotionally invested in the other characters. still great writing and story and like 3 solid sex scenes. quick read. big TW for parent death and grief.

I am so disappointed!!! When I first stumbled across this book, I was all in! And then I learned that while it can be read as a standalone, it was best to read [b:Black Sunshine|57236414|Black Sunshine (Dark Eyes, #1)|Karina Halle|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1615476571l/57236414._SX50_.jpg|89587620] and [b:The Blood is Love|57661690|The Blood is Love (Dark Eyes, #2)|Karina Halle|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1624373257l/57661690._SX50_.jpg|90317401] first. Thus, I began my first foray into Karina Halle.

Black Sunshine (my review here!) was delicious and sooooo good. The Blood is Love (my review here!) was not as good but still ok. In my mind, it had some good moments and it was one step closer for me to Wolf and Amethyst's story.

Then I started Nightwolf......I don't know what the f**k I was expecting, but this wasn't it!

What I didn't like about this book: (yeah, we're starting here this time)
1. First of all, the whole story isn't even about Wolf and Amethyst. It's about Amethyst and her mom with smatterings of Wolf.
OfficeDon'tLikeThat

2. There are very little smut/intimate scenes. Come on, Karina, this is why we read this stuff. Wolf was supposed to be the dark, possessive alpha with a sweet side for only Amethyst, but we saw very little of this because each of them were too busy being stupid the whole book.

3. AMETHYST. WAS. DONE. DIRTY! Amethyst was my girl in the first two books. I just loved her and really believed she deserved the world. Instead, she got a book of grief and never rose to her full badass potential. What a waste of her storyline.

What I did like about this book:
1. Wolf uses "baby" as his term of endearment
CluelessSwoon

2. Lenore's beautifully stupid idea was fantastic and exactly what we all wanted. And nothing can go according to plan of course, so that drama was fun to read
JimmyFallonNotWell

3. Despite everything, I still can't wait to read Dracula's story. I'm hoping he will be the dark, brooding alpha I wanted Wolf to be.

2.5 meh stars.

I enjoyed this book. I didn’t know I’d be getting so much angst with my vampire book, but there was plenty. I could tell that Karina really put her emotions into this story and I’m so impressed she was able to write during this hugely difficult time of her life.

I was suprised by how much I loved this book. I usually don't like friends to lovers. This book is the exception. Wolf and Amethyst's story is a beautiful one. Set on a backdrop of gothic mansions and oceanside villas. Despite the beauty, there is very raw grief and trauma in this book.

not a fan of all the human family drama in this one, but the sex scenes and romance still held up. i cried SIX. DIFFERENT. TIMES. (also the epilogue had my most hated trope so i cannottt justify giving it 5 stars lol)
