Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must Be More to Life by Maurice Sendak

There's surprisingly much in this little story of Jennie, a terrier who loves to eat. She has everything, but wants something more in her life, so she goes out to seek for something more and finds it, in a most peculiar fashion. The artwork is - obviously - amazing, Maurice Sendak can be trusted there :-D It might be a bit too bleak for kids - the colors are all muted browns, greens and blues - but there's a lot to see in images. I love this book.

My first ever "chapter book". Always loved this book. Even as a child, it never quite made sense to me, and I always somehow compared it to Alice in Wonderland. But it's lovely and honest and frank in its nonsense. Jennie is Everydog, and we love her steadiness in face of chaos.

I think this book made me want a Sealyham Terrier.

Sendak said this was one of his favorites, he wrote it about his favorite dog when she was getting towards the end of her life. Lovely story and great pictures.

Found a used, 1967 edition. I think it's been well loved - the cover is worn and ripped, with a ring from a tea or coffee on it, and clippings of articles about Maurice Sendak carefully tucked between the pages. I've owned it for a few months, but kept putting off picking it up. I lost a beloved grandparent last year, and books about loss like this are hitting harder than usual. But something about it being my first book of 2024, the first year I will spend without my grandpa, felt right.

I adored this book. Even without the added level of personal grief, it is a strange and delightful read. Nobody writes children's literature with the faith in children, and in stories, that Sendak did.

A book that explains the story of Jennie, a dog who has everything and isn't satisfied. She runs away from home to find out what she's missing and has numerous adventures along the way. The expected ending of learning to love what you have is not what actually happens, which surprised me greatly.

This was a good and interesting book about a dog that runs away from home and has many adventures. You would not be able to guess what the adventures are at a million years.
