I’m not quite sure how to rate this book.  Some parts were really enjoyable, while some were flat out boring.  I loved the setting, the Cuban food descriptions…
My biggest issue with the book would have to be the unrealistic way people spoke.  I’m 16, and I most certainly do not speak like the teenagers in this book.  Also the writing could be a bit over reaching at times, over the top.

Enjoyable with good character development. Beautiful depiction of family and finding oneself as they heal.

Don't think this was for me. Thought it was a bit boring since nothing really happened and the characters are a bit flat (the MC only really thinks about five things). The romance came out of nowhere for me as well. It sometimes felt like the author was trying really hard to make it feel more literary than it was with fancy metaphors, but it really didn't fit the writing style in my opinion.
