I'm not sure what I expected going in but it wasn't this. The story is filled with beautiful imagery and interesting worldbuilding but not much happens. It largely focuses on the main character, learning about her life and how she got where she is. It isn't until the very end that much happens but it was an enjoyable journey and has me curious to try more from the author.

A delightfully fairy tail twist with kingfishers signature style and wit. If you like her you’ll like this. If you haven’t read her this is a good start.

Short yet enough to get to know the characters and appreciate them. Toadling was so earnest, and Halim so down to earth. I especially liked how the author let us find out more of the backstory, I thought it was seamless and added to the story without making the story seem disjointed.

I chose the book because I had a reading challenge to read a book under 200 pages and this satisfied that greatly! I was surprised how nice it felt to read a science fiction/ fantasy story that wasn’t 5 books long haha
