With such an irresistible title, I couldn't not pick up Get Your Boots On. I'm not a teenager, but I'm new to the wonderful world of nature, so I felt it was appropriately at my level. However, it is very U.K.-specific. This is totally fine, but I'm just writing this review to let people know that if you're not in the U.K., you're probably better off getting a primer that's geared more toward your own community.
I greatly enjoyed White's photography, and the color-heavy, creative formatting of the book was really lovely. There were also a lot of contributions both from other young people and adult specialists working in various nature-related fields—bloggers, TV hosts, scientists, and adventurers. It was interesting to see how different people's relationships to nature evolved over time, eventually leading them to careers centered around the outdoors. Since this book is geared toward teenagers, I also really appreciated the effort to make it gender-balanced, giving all teenagers ideas of how they can stay connected to nature in the future.
