Really solid nonfiction! Writer has great story-telling capacity which kept me interested and I am so happy to know more about a part of the world that is enormous and I knew nothing about!

i really enjoyed this book and appreciated its accessibility, but i felt like at times the author’s perspective was too front and center. while that is part of the appeal of the book, it also gets in the way at points and adds unnecessary bias against “strange” central asian cultural customs. if you can detach yourself a bit from her, it’s an excellent introduction to central asia with a very fun and easy to digest format.
