"Given the right psychological conditions, a person could fall in love with anyone or anything."

From unknowing soulmates to unattainable babies and fight clubs with house guests, reading about the fantasies of Cheryl Glickman's inner world is odd, icky and uncomfortable at times. But Cheryl's peculiar perspective is evened out by an equally kooky universe filled with therapists who provide take-out containers for urinating in-office and a buxom beauty with unbearable foot fungus. As discordant and dream-like as it all seems, it's also not so strange at all because it's just frighteningly real. As much as I wanted to distance myself from the cast of characters in this book, some of Cheryl's thoughts and feelings were absolutely familiar to me as someone who knows the dangers of wearing rose-coloured glasses for too long. There are so many good quotes in this book, my copy is filled with highlights that make it as yellow as the cover of No One Belongs Here More Than You.

Being a fan of Miranda July's work, The First Bad Man is a book I couldn't put down. I would absolutely recommend it—but not to everyone.

This is a strange book, disturbing in parts, but lots of funny and thoughtful things too.

No one is unique and anuthentic and definitely has intimacy issues like Miranda July. (I love her).  Kooks is the perfect anthem.
