It was nice for a short piece but it left me with more questions than I would have liked. The idea and the setting are OK but some things in the story I found "too much" for my tastes. Maybe they are in context in the complete story. It's definitively fun to read but you then have to decide whether to go for the whole thing or not and that may prove difficult.

I gave this short story 4 stars but for me it definitely deserves a bit more, so let's just say it's 4,5 stars out of five. The story is very interesting and the characters are both realistic and uncommon but what sets this short story appart is the writing. I found McClung's style to be exactly what I've been looking for in a fantasy book. It's smooth, clear and fast while being descriptive, atmospheric and very beautiful. After reading many books lately with clunky writing that usually felt off-target, this short story was a much welcomed change! I will definitely check his fantasy book "Thagoth" when I get the chance!

Another fun tale, this time full of Gods and strong sorcerer's!
Once again a lot of action, wit and fun, adventures, traveling and slaying of monsters...

This will definitely become one of my favourite fast paced series!

There was a bit of romance in this one, but it was not dripping through the book, and only took a few pages, so I didn't mind it much. This is a direct quote: "We said and did the things that lovers say and do, and never you mind about the details" That is the sort of romance I can live with! ;)

I think its called binging when you read multiple books of the same series one after another?

I have never really done it. Or not since I was a teenager and maybe there is a reason for that. I feel like the second book didn't quite live up to the first. Mostly because the sequel needed to link back to the first book a bit better? I feel like to huge shift from one goddess two other is a bit confusing? Or maybe that will become clear in book 3? Either way, I will leave that be and come back to it when I am good and ready.

Overall, this is fast paced, but a little repetitive and I needed more about the twins. I mean I got enough ideas to figure out that they were thoroughly unpleasant but a bit more about their history wouldn't hurt.

Also the fact that the love story element is just another coercion from the gods gave it a bit of a sour twang to me. BUT I love the never say die attitude, mostly.

Did not like the tonal and setting shifts between the first two books.

Amra Thetys needs to stay away from vengeful deities for a while **chuckle** But when she doesn't, the results are a great read.

Amra is probably one of my favourite heroines of 2018, so I was eager for more adventures of her and Holgren up to different kinds of thievery. Accordingly, this installment was a bit of a disappointment: less urban crime, more Indiana Jones archeological shenanigans. Still a lot of fun, some great twists and turns, but definitely my least favourite in the series.
