!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this book is SO good so so so good. it’s structure was perfect, the way it was written like it was just repeating the truth with very little flowery language really managed to get the point across without being flowery. everytime nam-joo used a REFERENCE felt like a mega mic drop. honestly this was like the perfect fictional non-fiction.
i also didn’t actually realise how bad gender inequality was in south korea and it was a VERY smart choice to name the book ‘kim jiyoung, born 1982’ because then ur constantly reminded like oh she was literally born in 1982 this isn’t actually the dark ages.
i would highly recommend this book to ANYONE and would probably make my children read it if i was to have them

So simple yet so devastating.

We follow a Korean woman from birth until a year after her first child is born. Throughout her life we see what it means to be a woman, in Korea and in general. Although the book is fiction it almost reads as non-fiction because it's not really fiction...

i listened to the audiobook while reading and i really loved this. short and to the point, this character-based book presents instances of misogyny women face in korea (w references and data!), many of which are relatable to women all over the world, albeit in different realities. the very ending was sad and genius

Kim Jiyoung é todas as mulheres.
