one of the short physical books i bought a few days ago to get out of my post-vacation reading slump.
this is definitely a highlight of my reading year so far. i loved the very simple, matter-of-fact writing style - so poigniant! - and the author's incredible talent for conveying very complex situations of discrimination to make the reader grasp the dynamic and the victim's emotions. i really enjoyed that she explicitly talks not only about individual or systemic instances of oppression, but both of them and especially the way they interlock. there was a lot to learn for a foreigner like me about south korean society in general and it's gender relations in particular, but many of jiyoung's experiences also resonated on a very personal level, as they are probably pretty universal for afab and feminzed people all over the world.
i enjoyed the twist for the epilogue, but i think the ending felt a bit rushed. i understand that there is no resolution and that this is the point, but even then something bugged me - i can't quite put my finger on it though. very minor complaint there, however, so big rec overall!

really interesting book which has given me a greater understanding of gender inequality and discrimination in korea !
Necesaria lectura para entender La Vegetariana.
Es un libro demasiado plano y frÃo, pese a ello consiguió enfadarme a niveles insospechados.
